Jay-Z is suing David Ortiz

As if Jay-Z’s face popping up on ESPN during every Lebron James free agency rumor wasn’t enough, it’ll now be staring back at me for a different reason. The New York born rapper is suing designated hitter David Ortiz, claiming that Ortiz named his nightclub in the Dominican Republic after Jay-Z’s club.

Jay-Z owns a handful of sports bars in the United States named 40/40. David Ortiz recently opened his own club in the Dominican Republic called Forty-Forty. Ironically, both names are stolen after the baseball term for a player that has hit 40 home-runs and stolen 40 bases in the same season so neither owner is exactly drowning in creativity when it comes to picking their trademarks.

<Jay Leno Joke>After Ortiz’s slow starts over the past couple of seasons, shouldn’t he rename his club to 25/1?</Jay Leno Joke>

This stuff practically writes itself.

Also I’ve never been to the Dominican Republic but I’m guessing a local baseball All-Star is slightly more famous there than one of the biggest musicians in the world. It’s all about the hometown love so how would stealing the name of a club 3,000 miles away help with publicity?
