The economy must really be in the toilet. The New York Mets put pitcher Billy Wagner on the waiver wire and according to a few sources, he made it all the way to the Red Sox. The Sox put a claim on him and are currently trying to work out a trade with the Mets.
Wagner had a 2.30 ERA for the Mets last season before undergoing Tommy John surgery. His career numbers: 2.40 ERA, 385 saves, 819 IP, 1068 K. The reason he slipped so far is more than likely the $2.5+ million he’s owed this year and the $8m option he’s got for next year; although it’s a club option so that shouldn’t be a problem.
I know Wagner isn’t the prototypical Red Sox team guy but.. yes please?
