Ah Adam LaRoche, it seems like just yesterday you had 19 at-bats with 2 doubles and a HR. You only struck out twice too! I was so proud.. but now you’re gone. That’s right, the Sox have dealt LaRoche back to his old team, the Atlanta Braves. So long Adam!
Red Sox receive: Casey Kotchman (1B)
Braves receive: Adam LaRoche (1B)
This trade makes perfect sense. With the addition of Victor Martinez offensively, there is no need to keep Adam LaRoche around. Martinez’s shaky defense will be backed up by Kotchman. Kotchman has above average defense but his bat is just so-so.
Unfortunately this means that the infield is now getting VERY crowded. Lowell/Youkilis at third, Kotchman/Martinez at first. The fact that Youk can play both corner infield spots makes somebody expendable, more than likely Kotchman.. that guy we just acquired 15 minutes ago.

why would they do that? I thought he was pretty good
He’s pretty good defensively but Kotchman is just a bit better, also cheaper. I think LaRoche was owed something like 7.5 mil, next season too.
