Sox trade for Adam LaRoche

The Red Sox have announced that they’ve made a trade for more power (kind of?) The club has been struggling offensively as of late, scoring only 12 runs in the 5 games since the All-Star break. Here’s how it breaks down:
Red Sox receive: Adam LaRoche (1B), $$$
Pirates receive: Argenis Diaz (SS), Hunter Strickland (RHP)
The reasoning behind this, besides the obvious addition of a little extra left-handed power, is the health of Mike Lowell. If Lowell can’t stay healthy then Youkilis moves to 3B and LaRoche takes over at 1B. The problem is that LaRoche has been struggling big time for the past month and he strikes out 120+ times a season. He’s also a free agent at the end of the season so don’t look for him to be in a Sox uniform for more than another 3 months.
There’s no word yet as to how he’s going to fit on the 25-man roster but rumor has it that Kotsay is battling a bad calf and may be on his way to the DL.
By the way, if you’re wondering where you’ve heard of Adam LaRoche before.. click here. My hero.
