Cardinals Red Sox BaseballTheo Epstein made one of his worst decisions as GM of the Boston Red Sox in 2007. He signed SS Julio Lugo for four years and $36 million dollars. A handful of under-performing seasons and 42 errors later, Theo has rid himself of his mistake.

Julio Lugo is now property of the St. Louis Cardinals. Enjoy.

Red Sox receive: Chris Duncan (OF), PTBN
Cardinals receive: Julio Lugo (SS), $$$

The Sox will have to pay off the remainder of Lugo’s hefty contract but at least they are getting something in return. Duncan is a heavy swinging outfielder with the potential for LOTS of power except he struggles against left-handed pitching. His defense is also a little bit on the shady side.

There’s no room for him on the 25-man roster so he’s been designated to Pawtucket for now.

(You may remember Chris Duncan as the man who tried to take out Jason Varitek but couldn’t, as seen in the photo up top.)
