It’s been a long time coming. In fact, I woke up this morning and still thought I was asleep when I saw the influx of e-mails about it.
The Red Sox have designated Julio Lugo for assignment! This calls for a celebration. Someone pop the bubbly and I’ll get a cake!

But for real, this is how the situation is going down. Lugo has vastly underplayed for what his contract is worth and with Nick Green playing well and Jed Lowrie returning from the DL on Saturday .. who needs Lugo around?
Clay Buchholz is going to be called up to start tonight’s game. As soon as he is done pitching (and hopefully dominating), Boston will swap him out with Jed Lowrie.
Then Mike Lowell is going to be rejoining the club sometime in the near future and he’ll be swapping spots with Aaron Bates, who will be heading back down to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Today: Julio Lugo BOS to DFA / Clay Buchholz PAW to BOS
Tomorrow: Clay Buchholz BOS to PAW / for Jed Lowrie PAW to BOS
Later: Mike Lowell DL to BOS / Aaron Bates BOS to PAW
Make sense? It’s like a friggen episode of Three’s Company.
