Wakefield was a godsend today

Read these lines from Yahoo! Sports and try not to get a little tingle feeling running through your body:
When Tim Wakefield stopped by Terry Francona’s office Wednesday morning, he already realized the Boston Red Sox were staggering. They had lost six of seven while struggling to hit, and their bullpen was gassed after pitching 11 innings last night.
“I understand the circumstances of today,” Wakefield recalled telling his manager. “No matter what, don’t take me out.”
Over the years there have been few people in baseball that fit the definition of consistent like Wakefield does. He knows exactly when he needs to get the job done and usually manages to do so. That includes pitching a near no-hit complete game 12 hours after the Red Sox bullpen has to throw 11 innings.
Thanks Wake.
