Well, here we go..
Daisuke Matsuzaka has been placed on the 15-day DL with what is being termed as a mild shoulder strain. He wanted to pitch through it but I’m pretty sure that’s what got him in this situation to begin with (thanks WBC and Japan!)
Clay Buchholz has strained his hamstring so he won’t be coming up to make the spot start. That’s probably a good thing because he just walked 4 batters in Triple-A Pawtucket.
Devern Hansack, another possible replacement for Daisuke’s spot in the rotation, has dislocated his shoulder. Rule him out.
That leaves Justin Masterson. Masterson was stretched out during spring training and should be able to throw 90 pitches in a game. He’ll probably take over as a starter for the time being.
The Red Sox have called up lefty Hunter Jones to take Matsuzaka’s spot on the roster. Unfortunately Jones is having some travel making it to Oakland for tonight’s game so he won’t be available out of the pen.
