Mike Lowell is a tad bit emo

After the Red Sox won the World Series in 2007, Boston erupted in a series of “Sign Mike Lowell! Sign Mike Lowell!” chants. Mikey, the World Series MVP, got offers with more years and more money, but decided to give up a hometown discount. Why? He loves Boston, the fans, the atmosphere, and his teammates.
That’s what makes it sad to hear that Lowell has been rethinking the contract he signed with the Sox. He agreed to stay in Boston because he thought that the team wanted him to play every day. When Theo Epstein and company decided to go after Mark Teixeira over the off-season, it would have made Lowell the odd man out. I can’t really blame him for wondering if he made the correct decision to return to Boston.
From the point of view of a Red Sox fan: Corners of Youkilis and Teixeira would have been dominating.
From the point of view of a regular person: I don’t blame Lowell for “feeling hurt” that he was going to be discarded.
I guess all of this is in the past anyway. The important thing now is that his hip is recovering nicely and he should be the starting third-baseman throughout the 2009 season.

Looks like he’ll end up on the DL with hurt feelings.
Hahaha. I’m sure he’ll spend at least 1 stint on the DL this year, whether it’s from hurt feelings or not is a different story.
