The Red Sox and first baseman Kevin Youkilis have agreed to a four-year contract, worth more than $40 million, a deal also including a $13 million option for 2013 (roughly averaging $10 million per year). He has to pass a physical on Friday to finalize the agreement. Once it is a done deal, his arbitration filing will be negated. The Red Sox have yet to go arbitration with Theo Epstein being their GM.
Interesting Note: In December 2008, Youk’s agent said it was unlikely that the player would agree to a long-term deal this offseason.
Mr. “Happy Pass Over” definitely earned this extensions with his resumé; batting .312 with 29 homers and 115 RBI in his so far best season, finishing third in the MVP voting and winning the Hank Aaron Award as MLB’s best offensive performer.
Earlier this offseason, the Sox signed the reigning AL MVP Dustin Pedroia to a six-year deal worth $40.5 million.
This post was brought to you by our good buddy saito from WhatShow.net because he’s a huge Red Sox fan (and I was too lazy to write my own post.)
