Thank you Alex Cora

ESPN sources are saying that Alex Cora is close to signing a 1 year deal with the New York Mets. Cora had been with the Red Sox since being traded here from the Indians in 2005. He’s done pretty much everything the club has asked of him; this ranges from being asked to play third base for the first time in his career, be a back-up at shortstop AND second base, and even work harder at getting on base (.371 OBP in 2008 compared to his career .313 OBP, wow.) If you can believe it, there were even times when the majority of Red Sox fans whined that Cora should be starting rather than Pedroia (this was prior to Pedey winning AL MVP obviously.) He wasn’t the best of players but he worked hard and did his job.
The saddest part of the ESPN article is that Alex gave one last final phone call to the Boston head office to see if they wanted to keep him before he started to finalize things with the Mets. Oh well.. good luck Cora and thanks for the memories.
PS: I wish someone would have just taken Julio Lugo for free so we could keep Cora and have a Lowrie/Cora platoon. Ah.. in a perfect world eh?
