Red Sox are ‘not a factor’ for Teixeira

Mark Teixeira on the Rangers What a roller coaster ride this has been. First I went from thinking the Red Sox had just a tiny chance of landing Teixeira, then they were listed as ‘one of the teams still in it,’ then Peter Gammons told everyone it was down to the Red Sox and another suitor (at $184m for 8 yrs), then the Boston ownership/management team flew to Teixeira’s house in Texas, now John Henry is saying: “after hearing about his other offers, [...] it seems clear that we are not going to be a factor.”

It could be a bluff but it sounds pretty clear to me that Teixeira is going somewhere else. Oh well, at least we’ve still got Lars Anderson right?

Just for the record, I’m totally against a 10-year contract or 8 years at $22m+ a year.

I’m telling you – This is one big bluff.

The Angels do not have a $200M offer on the table – nor do the Nats… the Sox $185 (23M/yr) is the best offer Boras has… Henry helped him by confirming that the Sox won’t go higher, but I don’t think Boras is going to get a better deal when he starts calling around.

In a few days, the $185 will still be sitting there as he best deal, and Teix will sign with Boston before the new year.

    “Mark” my words.

I agree with you and I think they’re still in it. That being said, I wouldn’t be shocked to wake up one morning and see that he’s signed with the Nationals.
