Cliff Lee who? Last night was all about Tim Wakefield and the Boston Red Sox as they managed to clinch a postseason spot for the 5th time in 6 years by beating the Cleveland Indians 5-4. Not only that, but the win also eliminated the New York Yankees from playoff contention for the first time in 13 straight years.
I stupidly gave up my ticket to last night’s game to a coworker but apparently winning will never get old. The players went crazy and celebrated by spraying champagne all over the place while Jonathan Papelbon ripped up the bases from the infield at Fenway Park and handed them out to random fans.
The night ended with a smile and a quote about the future from Big Papi himself:
“We’re dangerous in the playoffs, everybody knows that.”
