I’m not sure how I managed to miss this story but rookie pitcher Michael Bowden is going to make his first major league start tonight. Bowden, only 21 years-old, absolutely tore through Double-A Portland this year and was promoted to Pawtucket about 2 months ago. Since the promotion, he has put up a 3.30 ERA and a 5.80 K/BB ratio in 40 innings of work.
I mentioned prior to the season in my ‘Top 3 Pitching Prospects‘ article that I didn’t think we’d see Bowden OR Masterson this year. I also didn’t think that Buchholz would perform poorly, Wakefield would get hurt, Beckett would get hurt, and Matsuzaka would get hurt. Things happen but tonight I’m just excited to watch one of the highest touted Red Sox prospects of the past 5 years pitch.
