Boston has officially acquired outfielder Mark Kotsay from the Braves. In return they had to give up 20 year-old Single-A outfielder Luis Sumoza in addition to paying the rest of Kotsay’s 1.5 million dollar salary AND pay him $325k to waive his no-trade clause.
A lot of people reported that the Sox would have to give up a minor league pitcher to receive Kotsay but Sumoza was included in the trade instead. Sumoza was hitting .301 with 11 HR for the Spinners at the time of the trade.
PS: The person in that picture is Jamie Kotsay, Mark Kotsay’s wife. I figured she was more interesting to look at.
