Lugo suffers a setback

I’m going to try and put this as positively as possible. Our currently disabled shortstop, Mr. Julio Lugo, has suffered a massive setback in his rehabilitation. He did a few wind sprints in the outfield before last night’s game and ended up having to shut it down because he felt ’something.’
Say what you want about Lugo (his defense sucks, his offense isn’t what it should be, and he’s overpaid) but he’s been working his tail off to get back on the roster. It doesn’t look like this will happen anytime soon as his planned rehab assignment next Monday with Pawtucket has essentially been delayed.
It wouldn’t be a Julio Lugo post without me throwing this out there..
Jed Lowrie: .317 BA, 1 HR, 31 RBI, .377 OBP, .482 SLG, 0 errors

I think anyone who knows me knows how I feel about Lugo’s tenure with the Red Sox, but if it’s one thing that guy’s got, it’s heart.
My gripe last year between the 2 overpaid Sox acquisitions (Julio Lugo and J.D. Drew) explained it best. Lugo, while terrible, wanted desperately to perform for the team and fans. Drew couldn’t be bothered to give much of a shit. For that reason, even though Drew’s become worthy of his salary this season, I still wouldn’t miss the son of a bitch. Lugo, on the other hand, could turn it around and start performing, and I’d open up to him right away.
That being said, the Lugo experiment has failed. Fenway Park (and Boston in general) is known for making very good players look like minor league rejects. Lugo needs to come out of the DL and do some good performing for the rest of the season and post-season. His only real hope now is a trade to a less-stressful ballpark where he can get out of his head and get back into the game.
I agree wholeheartedly. He couldn’t cut it in Los Angeles after being traded there from Tampa Bay; and that’s LA man.. it’s the Dodgers. The Dodgers have a long and storied history but they don’t exactly have the same expectations to win like there are in Boston.
That being said, I’m impressed with the effort Lugo puts in. He was a few weeks ahead of his rehab schedule because of how hard he was trying. Unfortunately life isn’t fair and trying doesn’t earn you a starting position on the Boston Red Sox.
