The Red Sox have traded a player-to-be-named-later or cash to Cleveland for starter Paul Byrd. Byrd is 4-0 since the All-Star break with a 1.24 ERA.

It doesn’t take much thought to figure out why Boston made this move. It can be summed up simply in 3 words: Clay Buchholz’s struggles. Buchholz has put up horrible numbers since returning to the club on July 12th (7.48 ERA in 30.1 innings.)

Byrd will start in the place of Buchholz on Friday against Toronto. Sorry Clay, you may have a no-hitter and a Penthouse Pet but you no longer have a position in the rotation.
