Another odd play

How does this stuff happen?

Last month when the Red Sox were playing the Yankees in Yankee Stadium, Kevin Youkilis hit a ball to left that missed being a homerun by inches. How did it miss? It deflected off Johnny Damon’s glove and sat on the top of the narrow outfield wall for a few seconds before rolling back down into the playing field. It was one of the oddest plays I’ve ever seen in my entire life.. until last night.

Jason Bay drove a pitch to deep left center at Kauffman Stadium. This ball was a goner except Mitch Maier of the Royals made an amazing leap to stop it from leaving the yard. But the ball didn’t drop back into the field of play, instead it rolled along the thin outfield wall for about 8 feet until leftfielder Ross Gload snatched it. After watching the play unfold, I was reduced to just staring at my television and muttering “how?”

We still have 48 games left in the season, god knows what else will happen..
