In yet another odd transaction, the Red Sox have traded for 27 year-old infielder Josh Wilson. Boston will send a player to be named later to the Pirates to complete the trade.
Mike Lowell’s hip has been bothering him a lot for the past few weeks and he’s had to leave 2 consecutive games early because of it. The Sox front office must not have too much faith in an everyday combination of Lowrie and Cora because this trade was made for no reason other than to get a bit of infield depth. Another possibility is that with Lowrie spending a huge chunk of his time in Boston this season, Pawtucket is left with nobody to man the infield.
Wilson has been playing this season with Triple-A Indianapolis and has put up mediocre numbers: .276/.347/.396
