Joe Borowski offered a minor league contract

I’m not sure exactly where the Red Sox are going with this one but they’ve offered reliever Joe Borowski a minor league contract. The financial side of it is next to nothing (tell that to anyone making $10 an hour) so it’s another low risk/high reward situation for the club.

Borowski was released by the Indians a few weeks ago after struggling to regain his control and velocity. He is a career journeyman reliever and has put up a few good seasons (2.73 ERA in ’02 and 2.63 in ’03, both with the Cubs.) Unfortunately he walks entirely too many people and just can’t seem to get anyone out anymore.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Red Sox can turn him around but I definitely wouldn’t hold my breath.
