The Red Sox have lost their one solid point in the bullpen (besides Jonathan Papelbon) for at least 15 days. David Aardsma is suffering from an undisclosed leg injury and has been put on the disabled list. His numbers this season include a 2.75 ERA and an impressive 41 strikeouts in only 39.1 innings.

Justin Masterson has been called up to take Aardsma’s place on the roster. Masterson was sent back down to Pawtucket a few weeks ago (link) so that he could become accustomed to working out of the bullpen. His numbers as a reliever in Triple-A this year are: 3.1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 4K.

We definitely could have had yesterday’s game in the bag had Aardsma been healthy. These injuries are killing us.

Yeah absolutely. I may be way off base with this because I haven’t looked at any stats but I think Aardsma’s numbers with inherited runners are the best in the pen.

I do know that he has the best BAA against the first hitter he’s seen in the majors.
