Tonight’s game was an odd one. It included one of the WORST umpiring calls I’ve ever seen on a groundout to 1B, 5 walks by Clay Buchholz (the majority of them coming when he threw the fastball he went back down to Pawtucket to perfect), and horrible performances by the majority of the bullpen.
None of those were the lowest point for the Red Sox though, that came in the 9th inning when Julio Lugo “felt a pop” in his quadriceps and fell to the ground after running to 1st base. He was immediately pulled from the game and will undergo an MRI tomorrow. Alex Cora will more than likely take his spot at SS and Jed Lowrie could be called up to Boston depending on how bad the injury is.
