Sean Casey drops his suspension appeal

Sean Casey has officially dropped his suspension appeal and will begin serving his 3 games tonight against the Diamondbacks. I’m not entirely sure of the strategy behind this.

The Diamondbacks will be starting two lefties in this series. The Astros, who we play next, only have 1 left-handed starter. It would make sense for me to have Casey around for this series and then start his suspension in Houston.

The only thing I can think of is that they want him available as a pinch-hitter in an NL park where there is no DH and the entire roster will likely be used.

In the meantime, Kevin Youkilis will make all of the starts at first and Brandon Moss will be the backup. Moss was converted from an OF to a 1B in Pawtucket earlier this year so he’s had some experience at the position.
