With his 92nd career save in last night’s 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, Papelbon now has the 3rd most in Red Sox franchise history. Saves are a relatively new statistic but both men in front of him are members of the ‘Red Sox Hall of Fame.’ The list currently looks like this:

1. Bob Stanley – 132 Saves
2. Dick Radatz – 104 Saves
3. Jonathan Papelbon – 92 Saves

Thanks for the comment over at The Bottom Line.

I was nervous about the Phillies too, but he Sox are rollin’! and now they get to come home!

Had no idea about Paps… pretty amazing since he’s so young… 132 doesn’t seem that far off.

Papelbon will be #1 sometime next season…although closers now only have to go 1 inning, much easier than 25 years ago.

There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll take it over sooner or later. He might not get much more than that though because free agency time is looming in the semi-near future but I’d rather not think about that at the moment.
