Daisuke Matsuzaka completes his rehab assignment

Daisuke started for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox yesterday in his first ever minor league game. He went 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk. Dice-K was put on the DL May 30th (retroactive to May 28th) with a mild right rotator cuff strain. He is scheduled to pitch for Boston against the St. Louis Cardinals this Saturday.

Matsuzaka followed in the footsteps of Mike Lowell (link) and provided a huge banquet for the PawSox players; but instead of cheese fries and ribs, he gave them enough steak and sushi to make their stomachs burst. Ah, baseball and free food.. can it get any better?

You know, for some reason, I don’t understand why Daisuke is not getting more recognition this season. I’ve watched him pitch twice this season and I just don’t understand why the buzz around him wasn’t like the buzz around Brandon Webb early on. Dice-K is 8-0. He’s the best pitcher in the AL right now.

I think it’s probably because of his INCREDIBLY high walk totals. I’m not sure how he gets out of some of the jams he ends up in. It’s got to be mostly luck; I don’t know..
