Thursday marks the start of 2008′s ‘First-Year Player Draft.’ This is one of my favorite things in all sports to keep an eye on. Why so much excitement? Well, check out who the Sox have gotten in recent drafts..
2006: Daniel Bard, Justin Masterson
2005: Jacoby Ellsbury, Craig Hansen, Clay Buchholz, Jed Lowrie, Mike Bowden
2004: Dustin Pedroia, Cla Meredith
2003: David Murphy, Matt Murton
2002: Jon Lester, Brandon Moss
2001: Kevin Youkilis, Kelly Shoppach
2000: Freddy Sanchez, Kason Gabbard, Manny Delcarmen
You get the point, there’s a lot to be excited about. The Sox’ most pressing need is to find a catcher to replace Jason Varitek when he finally retires, but if that doesn’t look likely then they’ll do what they always do and draft whoever looks like they have the most potential.
I’m psyched.
