A story of missed opportunities

Manny Ramirez hit homerun number 500 last night (link). I think it was the only time in my life that I didn’t want him to knock it out of the park. Here, let me explain why..
A few weeks ago when Jon Lester threw his no-hitter (link), I was out sick from work. My stomach hurt but I wasn’t throwing up and I probably could have made it in; instead I laid in bed and watched the same episode of Sports Center over and over again. Later that night I watched the game in amazement and had never felt more proud of an athlete that I’d never met before. His story, from the cancer to the comeback to the no-no was absolutely heart warming. That night I went to bed with a feeling of sincere happiness. The next day I went to work and I was informed that someone had tickets for the night before and NOBODY TOOK THEM. That’s the story of how I missed out on free tickets to a no hitter.
My birthday is Monday so about a month ago my girlfriend got me tickets to this current series in Baltimore. Tickets are wicked expensive at Fenway so a lot of people take advantage of the semi-close away games and make the trip to Maryland. Unfortunately her dad changed his mind about letting us borrow the car so she had to sell the tickets online. That’s the story of how I got screwed out of watching Manny Ramirez hit number 500.
So congrats to Manny; at least now I’ll always have the story of how I missed a no-hitter AND a future HoF’ers 500th homerun in the same month. Who else can say that?!
