Justin Masterson gets a promotion and demotion at the same time

Justin Masterson came up to Boston for one night, pitched well, and is now on his way out of town. He is being sent back down to the minors, but not to where he came from. Masterson earned himself a promotion from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Pawtucket.

In place of Masterson, the Sox have called up Bartolo Colon to pitch tonight against the Royals. The big man will try to continue Boston’s winning streak and make it 6 straight.

This is a good thing. He was struggling in AA… maybe he had trouble getting his mind right after succeeding in the majors…

I really like the idea of him helping to keep the staff fresh come September…

Yeah absolutely. I didn’t take much of a look at his numbers in AA after he went back down but I’m willing to bet he got used to the tendencies of major league players and just couldn’t dial it back down to the minor league level. That’s fine with me though as long as he performs in Boston :D
