Justin Masterson does his job

Masterson (Or JMast as I call him) looked good again tonight as he earned his first major league win, going 6 1/3rd innings and giving up 1 run on 3 hits and 3 walks. It feels so good to know that when we have a guy get hurt like Buchholz, that we’ve got someone like Justin Masterson to pick up the slack.

I missed the first time he pitched and was glad to catch this one. He looked on his game the whole time, and got pulled with a relatively low pitch count because the higher-ups have worries that he crumbles on his 3rd time facing a lineup. I didn’t see any sign of that happening but he was taken out anyway.

Masterson has a 1.46 ERA in 2 games this season. He’s thrown 12.1 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 7 walks. He has to get the walks down but I think that can be written off as adjusting to the patience of big league hitters (he had a 3.28 K/BB ratio in Double-A Portland last year). Things look good.
