When people weren’t still celebrating 2007’s win, the offseason was spent talking about a few things.
One of these things being Daisuke Matsuzaka’s freshman slump. People wondered if he would pull out of it during his second season with the Red Sox. Daisuke started todays game, went 5 innings, gave up 2 runs on 5 walks and 2 hits. The walks are obviously a huge problem as is the fact it took him 95 pitches to get through those 5 innings.
Another topic of discussion was Manny Ramirez and if he was on a decline. Manny went 2-5 with 4 RBIs in the opener. Both hits were doubles that were absolutely crushed. His swing doesn’t look like its lost anything and he looks to be in the same shape he was 3 or 4 years ago. Stay healthy you bad bad man.
The biggest piece of news was probably Papelbon whining about his contract and how relievers should be paid as much as starters (even though they pitch 1/4th as many innings.) Jonathan came in to todays game during the 10th inning, gave up 3 hits, 1 walk, and 1 run. He would have blown the save except Youkilis was thinking quick on his feet and threw out a runner trying to take 3rd.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need a nap. This 6 AM baseball game stuff isn’t nearly as fun as I had thought it would be.
