How much Red Sox schwag is too much?
My girlfriend has a Red Sox thong that she wears with her Boston t-shirt to bed every night. I have multiple Sox jerseys for home, away, alternate color, and St. Patrick’s Day. My closet is jam packed with a 2004 World Series Monopoly board, an AM only WEEI radio with a bright blue B on it, and enough hats to cover the heads of every child, man, and woman in New England.
But here’s something I don’t have: a 2008 Boston Red Sox limited edition Volvo C30. Yep, that’s right.. the Sox now have their very own car. 107 of the cars will be produced (1 for each win last season) and 106 of them will be available at New England Volvo dealers while the 107th will be raffled off for charity.
The car will retail for approximately $29,465 or the same price as a regular C30. Each car will include a dash plate and a certificate of authenticity that has printed on it the date of the game and final score for the win that it corresponds with. The certificate is autographed by Larry Lucchino and the CEO of Volvo, whoever he may be.
In addition to all that fanciness, the car is painted “Passion Red” to match the color of the Sox uniforms. They will also have a giant Red Sox logo on the rear window and smaller logos plastered around the inside and outside of the car as well as on the car’s custom floor mats.
