Lets play the numbers game. In 4 years, Tito’s Boston resume looks like this:
2 World Series Championships
3 Playoff Appearances
22 Playoff Wins
.720 Playoff Winning Percentage
375 Regular Season Wins
.579 Regular Season Winning Percentage
1st Sox manager to lead the team to the playoffs 3 times
1st highest playoff winning percentage (all-time) by managers with over 20 games managed
Pretty impressive. The Sox brass thought so as well as they rewarded Francona with a three-year extension today worth approximately $12 mil. That will keep him locked up until 2011. The club also holds option years for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Francona had this to say about the agreement:
“I want to thank the Red Sox ownership and management for their tremendous support. From the resources provided by the ownership group and the front office to a great collection of players and the passion and loyalty of the fans, there is no doubt that Boston is the best place to manage in the major leagues. I look forward to being in a Red Sox uniform for many years to come.”
