If Coco doesn’t play, then Coco doesn’t stay

“Put me in coach, I’m ready to play.”

Unfortunately it doesn’t always work like that and now that Coco is in a battle with Jacoby Ellsbury for his starting spot in center field, he has his bags packed. Crisp told the Boston Globe that he would possibly ask for a trade if he has to play backup to the kid.

This is a downright shame as watching Coco patrol the outfield is like watching a live version of Baseball Tonight’s Web Gems. He may not have the bat but you’re crazy if you can say that you didn’t yell “DID YOU SEE THAT CATCH COCO MADE?!” at least 15 times last season.

The problem is that it REALLY is a logjam in the outfield with Manny, Coco, Ellsbury, Drew, and Kielty. Youkilis and Casey can also play out there as well if needed. The best solution? Teach Ellsbury how to play short and send Julio Lugo away. Kidding. Kind of..

Coco ended his interview with this:

“I would honestly rather be somewhere else and play than be on the bench,” he said. “But I’ll take whatever comes and deal with it and no knock against Boston. I love the fans. They treated me well.”
