The Red Sox tried to void Curt Schilling’s contract

According to this article from the Boston Globe, the Red Sox management and Curt Schilling are in a bit of a dispute as to his contract. The shoulder injury that forced Curt to spend 7 weeks of the 2007 season on the DL might be a bit more serious than previously thought and may very well require surgery. Management found this out and reportedly (heavily) looked into voiding the 8m/1yr contract the pitcher inked with them over the offseason.

As per usual, everyone from Boston replied with a “no comment.” But if this is true and the contract gets voided or Curt requires surgery, the rotation may look like this:

  1. Josh Beckett
  2. Daisuke Matsuzaka
  3. Tim Wakefield
  4. Jon Lester
  5. Julian Tavarez (or Clay Bucholz?)

Not entirely sure if Bucholz has an innings limit being enforced on him this season but it looks like he’ll be riding this season out in the bullpen. Aside from Tavarez showing signs of John Burkett syndrome, the rotation looks promising on paper with or without Schilling.
